Page Three – The Journey Home

Our route home began eastward for a night in Bend. The plan was to please the women of the group with a visit to the famous quilt festival in Sisters, Oregon the next morning.

The quilt festival was pretty wacky. Every building and walkway in the city was covered in quilts for show or sale. We got there early and by the time we left the streets were packed shoulder to shoulder with quilt fanatics. Someone put a 1960 Buick on display, I suspect for the men who were reluctantly dragged to the event. Overall the festival was an interesting experience.

On the trip back through Bend we stopped for some photos along the highway. The Three Sisters made a beautiful backdrop for horses and cars.

At one point I had to make an emergency u-turn to get a couple black and white shots of a barn we drove past. Before returning to the car I took a shot I like to call “the most patient wife in the world”.

After a night in a place we called “Bates Motel” it was on to Crater Lake.

Crater Lake is absolutely stunning. The 2,000-foot deep lake is often completely still and the most brilliant cobalt blue you can imagine. I highly recommend a stop here if passing through the area. Despite the altitude and snow, it was surprisingly warm.

There was plenty of opportunity for photos. I found it hard to get a bad shot in this place!

We headed back toward the coast and retraced our route up in reverse down into California and south on Pacific Coast Highway.

Passing back through San Francisco, we stopped this time for photos near the Golden Gate Bridge.

Our final stop was in Goleta, CA at Moss Motors. Four TCs and one modern car were all that remained of the caravan. We had one final lunch stop along the way and said our goodbyes. It was a truly great trip and we will never forget it!
